Each atom of a molecule will have a distinct oxidation state for that molecule where the sum of all oxidation state wil equal to the overall electrical charge of the molecule or ion.

Oxidation number is the average of the oxidation state of an element in a compound

NOTE :- If in a compound all the atoms of ana element have same charge then oxidation state will b equal to oxidation number .
