Its other roles in metabolism include the regulation of glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells and the production of hormones. The liver is an accessory digestive gland that produces bile, an alkaline compound which helps the breakdown of fat.

liver  :  

• It is the largest gland and weight is 1.5 kg  

• It has right and left lobe.Right lobe is larger than left lobe.each lobe has many hepatic duct present .They secrete alkaline bile juice.Bile juice contains bile pigments . Bile salts,cholesterol and phospholipids.

function :  

• It makes the acidic food coming from stomach to alkaline.

• Bile salt helps in digestion of fats

• Breaking down large fat globules into smaller ones,so that enzymes easily act on it and digest them.this  pocess is known as emulsification of fats.

• The lower surface of right lobe, pear shaped sac,called gall bladder.it stores bile juice
