the khilafat movement initiated by muhammad ali and shaukat ali was a mass movement against the reduction of the temporal power of caliph after the defeat of the otto man in turkey during the first world war. gandhiji supported this movement as he saw an opportunity to bring hindus and muslim under the united shade of mass struggle to fight against the political evils conducted by the britishers.
