The main limitation of using a volumetric flask is that we can not measure large volumes.

  • Volumetric flask is a lab apparatus used for the measurement of liquid solutions.
  • It consists of a flat bottomed flask with an elongated neck with markings on it.
  • But the capacity of Volumetric flask is usually very less because as size increases its handling becomes difficult.
  • So measuring large volumes using volumetric flasks is practically difficult.
  • If we have to measure larger volumes we have to split them into smaller volumes.
  • There are also possibilities of random errors resulting from the production process.
  • In volumetric flasks while checking the lower meniscus, the flask should be held at eye level.
  • Otherwise error will occur.
  • These are some other disadvantages of volumetric flasks.
