A Day in the Country written by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov is a story of 2 orphaned children Fyokla and Danilka who were playing, when a menacing storm is moving towards their town compelling the people to take shelter
EXPLANATION:
- A threatening storm is appearing forcing the residents to take refuge. At that time, Danilka who put his hand in a tree hole to get the cuckoo’s eggs managed to have his hand trapped inside the tree hole (as the wood had broken at the edge of the hole and it jammed Danilka’s hand) needing assistance.
- Fyokla, his sister on seeing this got terrified especially worried as to how her brother would escape from the storm when he was stuck at one place. So he ran in the middle of the storm to call the town cobbler, Terenty, so that he could help her pull out his hand from the tree hole.
- Terenty agreed and helped Danilka, and they were able to successfully release Danilka’s hand from the tree. The storm had meanwhile passed and the rest of the afternoon, the three enjoyed the splendour of the country.
