Eicosanoids are produced from arachidonic acid (AA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and dihomo-γ-linolenic acid (20:3n-6) when these fatty acids are released from tissue phospholipids (PL) by phospholipase A2 (PLA2). AA is the precursor of the 2-series of prostaglandins.
