The poet depicts the working capacity of ordinary people's minds who are not bound by their views, feelings, principles, or opinions in the poem.
- Because people are fickle, they are prone to changing their loyalties, opinions, and attitudes frequently. They are emotive and sentimental. They aren't rational or reasonable in any way.
- They are usually swept away by their emotions, and as a result, they are unable to identify or discern what is good or wrong.
- They do not heed their intellect's direction when they are overwhelmed by emotions. The author demonstrates in the poem that the patriot was regarded as god-like by the masses only a year earlier.
- On his arrival in town, he was greeted like a hero, but after a year, the situation changed. The patriot was on his way to be hanged on the scaffold. People had become disinterested in him.
- They had shifted their allegiances to another location. People had no love or regard for him in these new conditions, but they were full of contempt for him.
- This shift in people's attitudes in the two situations contrasted clearly demonstrates people's fickle-mindedness.
