We raised earlier the problem of natural death1 and it is now necessary to deal more fully with the problem of the fate of the soul after death and the general nature of Neoplatonic eschatology. It is outside the scope of this work to make a detailed and full study of all aspects of this wide subject and we must be satisfied with an examination of those points which will help us to understand the meaning and relevance of eschatology within the framework of the ontological and spiritual aspects of man’s existence as outlined in the preceding chapters. In this chapter we will try to clarify the ontological factors in the eschatology of Porphyry and Plotinus.
