Explanation: as carbon combines with the oxygen, carbon dioxide is evolved therefore we write the equation as :

C + O2 = CO2

Therefore by gay lussac's law,

Carbon has one mole and oxygen has 2 moles therefore,

C : O

1 mole : 2 moles

Xg : 8 g

Therefore

X = 8×1 ÷ 2

x = 4g

Therefore the mass of carbon is 4g
