Indian Parliament consists two houses which are The Council of state and House of the people contain 250 members and 545 members respectively.

Explanation:

Council of state also known as Rajya sabha . Article 80 of the constitution provides that the maximum strength of the Rajya sabha shall be 250 out of which 238 will be elected by the legislative Assemblies of the states and Union territories and 12 members are nominated by the president from amongst persons who have excelled in the field of art , science, literature or social science.

  • At present, the total number of the members of the Rajya sabha is 245 out of which 233 members are elected out of the states and UT's and 12 members are nominated by the president.

House of the people also known as Lok sabha , the total membership of the lok sabha had been fixed at 545 by tge 31st amendment of the constitution, out of these 530 were to be elected from the states and 15 from union Territories.

  • But with the purpose to boost population stabilising measures on August 31, 2000 the union cabinet decided further freeze the present number of the members if lok sabha and state assemblies till 2026 .
