Given :- What is the mean proportional between the fourth proportionals of (0.03, 5, 0.006) and (0.81, 29.4; 5.4) ?

Solution :-

Let fourth proportional of (0.03, 5, 0.006) is x and fourth proportional of (0.81, 294; 5.4) is y .

than,

→ Product of extreme = product of means .

→ 0.03 * x = 5 * 0.006

dividing both sides by 0.03 ,

→ x = 5 * 0.2

→ x = 1 .

and,

0.81 * y = 29.4 * 5.4

dividing both sides by 0.81,

→ y = 196.

Now, we know that,

  • Mean proportional of a : b = √(a * b) .

Therefore,

Mean proportional of x and y = √(xy) = √(1 * 196) = √(196) = 14 (Ans.)

Hence, the mean proportional between the fourth proportionals of given ratio is 14.
