What is the meaning behind multiplication in physics? Is multiplication in physics purely mathematical or there is a physical explanation to it? How do we explain the product for example, S = v.t ? Is there any meaning behind this? For example, I can say that "Distance is defined as the sum of velocity 'time' times". But what does this even mean?

Yes there is explanation to it of course .

Its just that some cannot understand it .

Example-Lets see wat u gave

S=v.t

V=s/t

So , speed is distance covered in particular time period. We need a respect to a object traveling with particluar speed .Now see, If you take time , then we can explain speed .Speed cannot be explained without time .

It is mathmatical because ,

It can be used to find various values .Such as:

Given that u have travelled for 5 hrs with constant speed of 25 km/hr , how much u travleed? When stone thrown upwards , what is its speed at 2nd secons at this instant? So , to find it , we have to use mathmatics. Physics without formulas is like a head without brain ,or sea without water , or like hollow coconut.

Distance cannot be sum of velocity and time.

See...V=D/t is logical .U travelled a distance and u r dividing the distances in intervals of time .

That t is dividng number , to divide D in T pieces .

Its necessary to break down D in T pieces .To do it , only division can be used.

Okay , u travels a distance of 25 km in 5 hrs .

If (as u take) Speed= d+t,

U will say that its 30 km+hr

Now, clearly , if u r asked to find distance covered on 2nd hour , how will u do???? Not possible with it .

However , if distance is divided into T pieces (V=D÷T) Then , u can take second piece and get distance covered at that time.

SO IT IS MATHMATICAL AND REASONABLE .
