6x-2y are two terms and it's an algebraic equation in this equation we can't do anything to this equation because the variable (X and y) are unlike terms ( different terms) that's why we can't add or subtract this equation but we can do one thing we can take out the common from this equation or multiply it rather than that we should not do anything and if we take out common we get

2(3x-y)
