It means that the newer seeds and plants of the future would have their moments of life and one day, they too will meet their demise. It represents a cycle.

According to the author, Henry cuyler bunner one who plants the trees first sow the seeds which sprouts into buds . Here hard work is also showcased because a seed takes several days for the process. And after so many years which( i.e. one year fades and other flushes) a tree comes into existence which is the glory of the plain.
