A backlog is something you don’t want in engineering if it isn’t obvious.

Jokes apart, when/if you fail in a subject in engineering you don’t get stuck in the semester you are currently in. Instead in this semester type scheme you get to move to the next semester but then at the end of the next semester you will have to write another exam in addition to the exams of the next semester.

Let me give an example. Let’s say a person X fails in subject 1 of 3rd semester. That person doesn’t have to stay in the 3rd semester. Instead, that person can write and clear subject 1 in addition to the exams at the end of 4th semester...
