I know the answer friend . It is from the story "Thank you Ma'am" 
This means that - when the woman was coming back home and did not notice him nor she had disturbed or bother him , but the boy had tried to snatch her purse and put himself in contact with the woman.If he had not done so there would not be any contact with them. After he had caught hold of the purse , he thought he would run , but it didnot happen according to his plan . The strap broke and he fell and woman said this to make him realise that the thing he did was wrong .
