catalyst is something which speeds up a reaction.
but it doesn't take part in the reaction.

Catalyst speeds up a chemical reaction but it is not consumed by reaction.It can be recovered chemically unchanged at the end of the reaction as it has been used to speed up or catalyse. Example of catalyst are hydrogen peroxide will decompose into water and Oxygen gas.
