What is the meaning of displaced at interface in "the light reaching you from the portion of the pencil inside water seems to come from different direction,compared to the part above water.this makes the pencil appear to be DISPLACED AT THE INTERFACE"?

Heya user!!

Yes because when light enters in to diff medium,it's speed is affected and thats why we watch the pencil displaced(inside water) from it's actual place (in air).

This is because refraction.And all depends on the medium through which light is travelling.
