Doctrine of Lapse was a policy started by East India Company to enter Indian territory. In this if a king died without a make heir then his kingdom would become LAPSE means become a part of company's territory. Adopted son was not regarded as heir. Eight Kingdom including JHANSI was also annexed by this policy.
