K,L,M,N are called as shells

where K can occupy maximum 2 electrons

L can occupy maximum 8 electrons

and so on

M can occupy 18 electrons

2n^2 is the formula to.know how many electrons.are there in a shell

so incomplete last shell means that the particular shell.has not enough electrons to complete.the octet

so it will either donate electrons or accept electrons .
