Himayam samarabhya yavad indu sarovaram tam deva nirmitam desham hindustanam prachakshate .

This verse is taken from vishnu purana ,which means starting from Himalaya till Indu sarovar everything which is there it is called hindu ,here hindu doesn't mean any religion or community ,trees which are grown here are hindu rivers which are flowing here are hindu and even land is hindu and there is one more verse which support the answer .

Uttaram yath samudrasya himadreschaiva dakshinam varsham tath bharatam nama bharathi yatra santati .

It means ,uttaram yath samudrasya towards north from the ocean and himadreschaiva dakshinam towards south from himalaya the plasce between Himalaya and ocean in the south is called “BHARATHA“.
