Homology is the existence of shared ancestry between a pair of structures, or genes, in different taxa.

The organs which have common origin, embryonic development and same tundamental structure but perform similar or different functions are called as homologous organs and this phenomenon is called Homology.

Examples:-

1. Mouth parts of insects:-

(i) Cockroach (Biting & Chewing)

(ii) Honey bee (Lapping & Chewing)

(iii) Mosquito (Piercing & sucking)

2. Testes in male and ovaries in female

3. Potato and Ginger:- Both are modified shoot.

4. Radish and Carrot:- Both are modified roots.

5. Molecular homology:- Homology found at molecular level. For example the plasrna proteins found in the

blood of man and apes are similar.
