Alveoli are small, round or balloon-like structure found at the end of the bronchioles and provide a larger surface area and maximizes the exchange of gases inside the lungs.

The pulmonary alveolus is a sac roughly 0.2 to 0.5 mm in diameter.

These alveoli are found at the ends of air passageways in the lungs.

Sometimes, people associate alveoli structures with the appearance of a raspberry or a “bunch of grapes.”

In the average adult lung, there is an average of 480 million alveoli.
