Lewis symbols(on the name of an American Scientist G.N.LEWIS) are used to represent number of valence electrons in an atom.

The electrons are represented by small dots around an symbolic atom.

Example:
To represent hydrogen atom's valence electrons, one small black dot is used to show one electron around the nucleus.

This is also known as lewis dot structure

Hey .....!!☺

Here is ur ans. ⤵

➡ LEWIS SYMBOL -- In the formation of molecules , only outer shell electrons take part in chemical combination and they are known as valence electrons .

The inner shell electrons are well protected and ate generally not involved in the combination process .
G.N Lewis , an American chemist introduced simple notations to represent valence electrons in an atom .
These notations are known as Lewis Symbol .
