actually she didn’t have the concept of “word” or “name” relating to objects around her. When she grasped the idea of “meaning,” the whole world opened up to her. Since Helen Keller was deaf and blind, I imagine her teacher placed a mug of water in her hands and made a tactile sign signaling “mug" or “water" or"mug of water. “ Since the communication was quite basic, it was hard to tell exactly what her teacher was “saying.”
