This name derives from the Ancient Greek “prokopé (προκοπή) Prokópios (Προκόπιος)”, meaning “progress, advance”. 1) Procopius of Ustyug was a saint of Russian Orthodox Church, formerly a merchant from Lübeck. He was born in Germany, a Roman Catholic merchant who converted to eastern Orthodox Christianity during his travels. 2) Procopius († 366) was a Roman usurper against Valens, and member of the Constantinian dynasty. According to Ammianus Marcellinus, Procopius was a native and spent his youth in Cilicia, probably in Corycus. 3) Flavius Procopius Anthemius was a politician of the Eastern Roman Empire, son of Western Roman Emperor Anthemius.
