This one is very famous proverb derived from epic Ramayana , which means that for making any promise true we can risk our life or also can die but will not make any promise fail.

That’s why lord Ram went to forest to fullfill their father’s promise to Lord Ram Step Mother Kaikai, and by making this promise true , lord Ram father Dashrath die in regret.
