Relative atomic mass (symbol: Ar) or atomic weight is a dimensionless physical quantity defined as the ratio of the average mass of atoms of a chemical element in a given sample to the atomic mass constant. The atomic mass constant (symbol: mu) is defined as being 112 of the mass of a carbon-12 atom.

Answer:

Relative mass or relative atomic mass is the measure of how heavy the atoms are with respect to the mass of the atoms of known masses....

for instance it is the ratio of the average mass per atom of an element from a given sample to 1/12 the mass of a carbon-12 atom. In other words, a relative atomic mass tells you the number of times an average atom of an element from a given sample is heavier than one-twelfth of an atom of carbon-12.

Relative mass numbers are basically ratios thus are a dimensionless quantity.
