Robins will wear their feathery fire, Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;And not one will know of the war, not one Will care at last when it is done.Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree, If mankind perished utterly;

And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn Would scarcely know that we were gone."(pg. 479)Though Bradbury’s story and this poem have a lot of similarities, they are also extremely different. While it is linked to the theme of technology and nature, the poem focuses more on nature, while the short story focuses more on technology. It almost sums up the story as a whole, and begins to foreshadow the rest. Just as the frogs in the pools are singing, the clocks in the house also sang. In the next sentence, the word “tremulous” has two different meanings. In the poem, it’s referring to the plum trees shaking in the wind, but if you look at the house as being tremulous, it means timid or nervous. The house, although very technologically advanced, did not know what to do without the family that inhabited it. The next line foreshadows the ending ofBradbury’s story. While the robins “wear their feathery fire”, the house is soon destroyed by a fire. Lastly, the poem goes on to say that even if mankind becomes extinct, nature will go on without realizing that we’re gone. It mentions a war, which happens to be exactly how mankind was destroyed. The poem states “Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree, if mankind perished utterly” (pg. 479). Bradbury wants the readers to understand and realize that no matter what mankind does, nature will always prevails in the end.
