Siphonostele is referred to as the kind of stele in which the pith is present in the centre of the stele.
Extra Information-
- According to the definition, Protostele with pith is called siphonostele or Medullated protostele is called siphonostele.
- The origin of pith may be intrastelar or extrastelar that is, cortex invasion is found occuring into the stele.
- It is of further two types-
- Ectophloic siphonostele- Here, the phloem is present only on the outer side of the xylem. Examples of Ectophloic siphonostele are as follows- Osmunda , Scizaea , etc.
- Amphiphloic siphonostele- Here, the phloem is present on both of the sides of the xylem. Examples of Amphiphloic siphonostele are as follows- Marsillea , Adiantum , Dipteris , Platyzoma , etc.
