• Following the Dr. Abid Hussain Committee recommendations, the Government of India Gazette dated 10 December 1997.

• He had raised the lid on investment in the sectors of machinery and plant for the SSI and the Ancillary Industrial Undertaking to the amount of Rs. 3 crore.

• The definition of the SSI and the ancillary industrial undertaking has then been revised.

• Small scale industries which is for manufacturing, "enabling service, productions" are done on a smallscale.

• As per the Government of India Notification on 24 Dec 1999, an industrial undertaking from which the investment in machinery and plant, whether being held on some ownership terms / on the lease or hire purchase basis should not exceed an amount of Rs.1 crore is considered as small-scale industries.
