Soil erosion is the process of wearing away of the surface layer, or top soil, by the transportation of the surface particles under the mechanical actions of agents like wind, river, or even glacier.

While soil erosion removes the topsoil causing loss of fertility of soil at one place while leading to the emergence of new soil at another.

Also, any erosional event is accompanied by a depositional event, thereby eroded fertile soil forms fertile deposits like delta or Aeolian plains.
