This was done so that the difference between the new rebuild and old regime could be easily illustrated. So the leaders decided to introduce and propagate a new set of symbols to replace the earlier ones that represented monarchy and religion. To make new ones, symbols were either borrowed from other historic cultures and then redefined, while the old symbols were either destroyed or attributed with new characteristics.
