Chipko Movement was started in the early 1970 s in order to stop deforestation. When the tree cutters come to cut the trees,the local people surrounded and hugged the trees .As the people embrace the trees it was popularly known as the Chipko movement. It got an international Fame because that time deforestation was happening was on a large scale all over the world and when people knew about this movement, some of the countries also tried this movement and it was successful .
