The story After Twenty Years begins with the action of a policeman.
He goes rounds with beats in the cold night 10 o'clock. There were chill winds in the atmosphere and the policeman did not mind it. He was ready to do his duty at any time. There is no necessity for him to show his duty but he sincerely did his duty.
By checking all the doors while he was going on in beats.
