lest means in order to prevent something from happening
therefore, a sentence using lest could be,
"she gripped her brother's arm lest he be trampled by the mob."
on the other hand, lest... should almost means the same as or else.
"work hard lest you should fail."
lest has a negative meaning. therefore, it should not be used with not. The only auxiliary verb that can follow lest is should.
