- Oxidation can be defined on the basis of 3 scientific terms. These are as follows :-
- The reaction which involves addition of oxygen in any atom is called oxidation.
- Removal of hydrogen from any compound is also included under oxidation Reactions.
- Losing of electrons from electropositive elements is regarded as oxidation of the element.
- The compounds which lose their oxygen atom for the purpose of oxidizing another element are called as oxidizing agents
- You can learn them by a short trick which is stated as under:-
- The compound which goes under reduction are called oxidizing agents and vice versa.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS :-
- The reaction which involves removal of oxygen from any compound is called reduction.
- Addition of hydrogen to any atom is also included under reduction.
- Gaining of electron by an electronegative element is called reduction.
- The atoms which gain oxygen from the oxidizing agents are called reducing agents
- As they go under oxidation they are stated as reducing agents
