what is the meaning of wilting
Answers
NCERT based Answer for Class 11 Biology Students
Wilting due to loss of turgidity: In case of loss of turgidity (due to deficiency of water or high rate of transpiration during summer noon), the shoots droop down and the leaves show wilting. In wilting the leaf cells and other softer parts become flaccid due to loss of water from them. As soon as the conditions are reversed (ample supply of water or reduced rate of transpiration during night), plant cells gain their turgidity. If the soil does not obtain water periodically, the recovery may be only partial or it may not occur at all. This condition is known as permanent wilting. The plant dies soon.
