Answer: The potential difference is measured by means of an instrument called voltmeter. The voltmeter is connected in parallel across the points where the potential difference is to be measured.

A voltmeter has high resistance so that it takes a negligible current from the circuit.

When voltmeter is connected parallel across a conductor, then the positive terminal of the voltmeter must be connected with the positive terminal office sale or battery and its negative terminal must be connected with the negative terminal of the cell or battery.
