demerits -
1) Rutherford's atomic model fails to explain the reasons behind stability of atom.
2)Rutherford's model fails to explain the formation of different lines in the line spectrum of atoms.
3) Rutherford compared his model with planetory system. But it is not correct because the attraction force between sun and planet is gravitational force. But It is electro static force between nucleus and electron.
merits-
1) rutherford discovered the prescence of nucleus in atom by his experiment.
2) Rutherford assumed that most of the atom is hallow and small centre point called nucleus.
3) he imagined that electrons revolve around nucleus like planets around sun.
4) In this way he got nobel prize to his discovery.
