In 1775,may of the in habitants of British 13 American colonies rebelled in the war of Independence ( 1775-83) . the British Army in America performed fairly well in battle against the rebels ,but it was unable to prevent the loss of territory following French and Spanish entry into the war.

In 1857 the British introduced grease cartridges for the guns used by Indian Sepoys (soldiers) these greased cartridges were to be bitten by the mouth before using them.These grease cartridges were made of Cow fat and pig fat and according to Hindu religion Cow is a sacred animal and the hindu's are not allowed to eat cow where as the muslims were not allowed to eat pig so both hindu's and muslims revolted against the British.

Other cause was that in 1800s the britishers brought many laws which are against the Indians

But the main cause were the greased cartridges
