What is the minimum number of weights which enable us to weight any integer number of gram of gold from 1 to 100 on a standard balance.

condition :-we can't subtract the weight. So only thing we can do is that we can add the weights.

  • 1-If the weights are standard then the solution is
  • 1+2+2+5+10+10+20+50=100
  • so answer=8

2-if the weights are not standard then many solution can be possible

  • 1+2+4+8+16+32+37=100
  • 1+2+3+7+14+28+45 =100
  • so answer=7

taking the weights in powers of 3 like 1,3,9,27,81 you can weight any integer weight between 1 to 100( in fact up to 121 kg.)
