Analog to digital converter transforms an analog voltage to a binary number (a series of 1's and 0's) and then eventually to a digital no. (base 10) for reading on a meter, monitor or chart.
The number of binary digits that represents the digital number determines the ADC resolution.
An n-bit ADC has a resolution of one part in 2ⁿ.
For example, a 0 bit which is the minimum bit with a Vdc = 10V will be :
2⁰ = 1
The minimum value is :
10/1 = 10
10 V
