Answer:

Once, Douglas had gone to the pool when no one was there. He was timid about going in alone and he sat on the side of the pool to wait for others. He had not been there long when an eighteen year old boy came and tossed him into the deep end.

Douglas was unable to get out and the sheer terror of the water around him, filling him, nearly caused an accident.

This horrifying experience would have led to Douglas being drowned, was there not help at hand. This was the misadventure that Douglas had, increasing his fear of the water that already loomed large in his heart.

Answer:

This question if from the chapter Deep Water written by William C Douglas.

In this lesson, the author talks about the misadventures he experienced with water and how he overcame the fear of water.

The first misadventure he met with water was during the age of 3 to 4 years. He along with his father were surfing in a beach at California. Moments later, the waves were so large that the author was submerged or washed by the waves. He almost drowned but his father saved him that day. From that day, he developed a fear towards water sports and stayed away from it.

The second misadventure happened in the Y.M.C.A pool during the age of 11 years. He decided to swim in the pool as they were only 3 feet deep which was considered shallow. While he was waiting for his friends to arrive at the pool, he was thrown into the pool by a bully in the water having 9 feet depth.

After so many hardships of escaping he gave up the hopes of reaching the surface of water. Due to this his legs freezed and he became unconscious. Luckily he was saved from the pool, but after that incident he decided to learn swimming from an instructor to eradicate his childhood fear towards water sports and water.
