Model Code of Conduct :-
Model Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India to Govern the conduct of political parties and candidates in the run-up to an election.
It is intended to provide level playing field for all political parties, to keep the campaign healthy and fair, avoid clashes and conflicts between political parties, and ensure peace & law and order in the country. Its main aim is to ensure that the ruling party, either at the center or in the states, does not misuse its official position to gain unfair advantage in an election.
The Model Code of Conduct comes into force the moment an election is announced and remains in force till the results are declared. The Model Code of Conduct applies to all the political parties, their candidates, political agents, the government in power and all government employees.
