Teflon is not a material, it is a registered trade name of a range of fluoropolymers (polymers containing fluorine, F). The first polymer of this family was developed in 1938 from tetrafluoroethylene (F2C=CF2) monomer. This can be considered as monomer of PTFE or Teflon.
