The mood or atmosphere the author created was sad ending with lot of fear in the beginning. At the beginning, every horses and colts were running with fear when they heard the sound of the dog. And at the end, the narrator's mother's close friend died. They never knew what they did to that horse and the death of a little hare. The poet also says the life of horses and hare that struggles to live.
