Dear Departed reflects on how human values are steadily deteriorating in the society. People only care about materialistic gains, like Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan and Amelia Slater. People care less about relationship and do not value old people. Since Abel Merryweather was only kept around by the both of them so they could seize his property and belongings later on.
