  • hydrophytes : a plant which grows only in/ on water or plants which have completely or partially submerged in water
  • there are four types of hydrophytes
  1. free floating non rooted hydrophytes
  • they remain in contact with water and air but not soil
  • they can really float on water
  • leaves in some are quite large while in others are small
  • eg: lotus

2. free floating rooted hydrophytes

  • has long petioles which keep them floating
  • leaf processor cuticle, stomata and waxy surface on the upper part of the leaf
  • eg:eichornia
