Explanation:

In physics, motion is the phenomenon in which an object changes its position over time. Motion is mathematically described in terms of displacement, distance, velocity, acceleration, speed, and time.

In the world of mechanics, there are four basic types of motion. These four are rotary, oscillating, linear and reciprocating. Each one moves in a slightly different way and each type of achieved using different mechanical means that help us understand linear motion and motion control.

Motion :

  • Motion is all about the change with respect to time of the position of an object.

  • If the motion itself is a curve /line, then it is called as translation.

  • Basically, Motion is caused by force.

  • SI unit of motion is Meter per second which can be expressed as m/s.

Types of Motion :

Generally, there are 4 different types of motion. They're as follows :

» Rectilinear Motion :

If the motion occurs in straight line it is known as Rectilinear Motion.

Example : Motion of a Sprinter

» Circular Motion :

If the motion occurs in circular path, it is called as Circular Motion.

Example : Athlete running on a Circular Path.

» Periodic Motion :

If the motion repeats itself in regular intervals of time, it is called as Periodic Motion.

Example : Rotation of Earth on its own axis.

» Rotational Motion :

If an object rotates about a fixed axis, it is called as Rotational Motion.

Example : Turning of a Ball.
